We love out of town weddings, especially when it's at places as eccentric as the Ukrainian Village / Vegreville AB. Driving out of town we drove through a variety of weather fronts, from sunny, to cloudy, to rain and back again. But we just knew that this day was going to be awesome.
The day began at Jennifer's parent's house with Jennifer getting ready, then heading out to the salon, and a few moments later, Garrett arriving at the house for the groom prep. Then it was off to the Ukrainian Orthodox church for the ceremony. A beautiful orthodox ceremony ensued with Jennifer walking the aisle by her own free will.
After tying the knot, we drove back out to the Ukrainian village back towards Edmonton, where we did their pictures. What a blessing when we arrived and found that the whole bridal party had been granted free entrance to this beautiful park. It very much reminded us of our very own Fort Edmonton Park back home in Edmonton.
The weather was beautiful the whole time we were there, except for a few gusts of wind. But on the horizon we could see storm clouds brewing. It was truly God's blessing on them however, as it only began raining when we had finished at the site and were headed out on the road. Of course, then it dumped so much rain on us on the highway that we were driving at snail speed. ;)
At the reception... wow! Talk about going all out on your wedding day. Two caricature artists were available throughout the night to draw people's portraits. We were fortunate enough to have our team portrait done by Flavio from Caricatures. For this portrait we asked for afros, something Kenneth has always wanted. And suddenly we didn't look very asian anymore. ;)
Also at the reception was an event painter who painted a beautiful piece in record time, a live band, and the most exotic food including bison! We've never had bison, and from the sounds of the pleasant surprised remarks and the heaping plates of those at the reception, neither had they! :)
What a night, what a day! It was a beautiful day, Jennifer + Garrett, and we are so blessed to have been given the opportunity to participate in it with you, and to experience the joys, love, and support of the Ukrainian culture when two people come together in holy marriage.
Blessings on you two!
Kenneth + Elaine
